One type of data set is aimed at providing the general identification of the meter. The elements which are incorporated in it are meter identification details, such as meter serial number, installed CT details, PT Details, class of accuracy, etc. (Table).
Elements of Data Set |
Types of Data
•Instantaneous snapshot:
1. Voltage
2. Current
3. Energy
4. Power Factor
•Cumulative Registers data:
The cumulative data register normally includes the parameters given in Table .

Parameters included in the Cumulative Data Register |
The values are stored with time stamp in the dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm format. The values are also available in the form of snapshot for the last resets
•Profile Data
The profile data (Load Survey) is captured by the meter on a 30 min integration basis and is stored for a period of sixty days. The data elements for the load survey are given in Table .
Data Elements for the Load Survey |
•Events Data
The events under specific conditions are logged into the meter. The conditions and definition of these events are manufacturer specific. Normally under voltage condition persistent for 5 minutes and less than 70% of nominal voltage is treated as an event

Download timings
Table gives an idea about the time required for downloading of data needed for billing and survey purposes.High-end or key consumer meters can be read only through AMR. The data may be downloaded between the 21 st and 25 th of every month by the AMR desk. For handling all such cases for which meter was not read because of meter not communicating or any other technical issues, a utility team can be sent to the site for physical data download. Generally the data is downloaded in the form of different files formats such as the following, depending on the meter type:
• MRD – Secure Meters
• VIN – L&T
• RBG – ABB

Common software has to be prepared so that the downloaded files from all the meter types are of the same file format. The common file format to be used should be XML. At present, three different software platforms are used as shown in Fig.

Data Analysis
Some of the common parameters or attributes obtained from data download are:
•Instantaneous Parameters
− Voltage
− Current
− Energy
− Power factor
•Tampered Events
− CT reversal
− Load imbalance
− PT missing
− CT short
− CT open
− Neutral disturbance
− Energy values
− Consumption pattern
− Demand (MDI)
− Load survey

Reports Analysis |
Flagging of exception cases may be done through Artificial Intelligence (rule defined). Such cases may be forwarded to respective Groups for further investigation and action. In Fig, we present the process of the analysis of reports.
